June was a month of celebrating Philippine Independence. We proudly made our presence felt at various events, including Barrio Fiesta Madrid, Barrio Fiesta España, and Pinoy Fest.
Together with the Arnis kids, we showcased cultural demonstrations of Arnis. We braved the heat and endured the long wait to show the public that our national sport is worthy of recognition and that even the younger members of the Filipino diaspora can appreciate and enjoy it.

We also brought Baybayin, one of our precolonial writing systems, to these events. The script came to life through beautiful art and creative designs. Many of us had fun learning how to write our names in Baybayin.

We became kids again as we joined the Palarong Pinoy games thoughtfully organized by the Filipino Madrid Rackets Club (FMRC). It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, bringing back cherished childhood memories.

By now, many people in Madrid have probably seen the theater production Las Últimas at Centro Dramático Nacional's Teatro Valle-Inclán. We were proud to show our support for the cast, especially Julia Enriquez, who generously conducted a free theater workshop for the children of the Arnis and Drum and Lyre Corps. Through the workshop, we witnessed how the children perceive our Filipino community and culture and the positive impact these have on them.

All of these activities were made possible through the collaboration of our entire community—the local institutions, organizations, families, volunteers, and participants.
We hope to continue being part of events that strengthen our sense of unity and contribute to building a vibrant community. After all, we are all part of it.
