Pambansang Buwan ng Pamana (National Heritage Month)

It was a pleasure seeing so many new faces in our Baybayin meet-up. There were even special guests from the University of Nebrija! This month we focused on the aspects of Filipino culture that make us unique, and we need to treasure it as a part of our cultural heritage. It was an intensive course where they reviewed the rules for writing the words. As usual, we also munched on some classic Filipino chips and snacks. 

For the words to practice, we focused on the UNESCO awardees around the country:

UNESCO World Heritage sites:

1. Vigan City (Lungsod ng Vigan) - ᜎᜓᜅ᜔ᜐᜓᜇ᜔ ᜈᜅ᜔ ᜊᜒᜄᜈ᜔

After practicing writing the words, we also played a game where the participants had to practice reading clues about the UNESCO creative cities in Baybayin. From those clues, they had to guess the name of the city and write it in Baybayin. It was so great seeing the participants get the hang of reading and writing the words and being able to apply them in the activity. From having zero to minimal previous knowledge about Baybayin, to being able to read full sentences, it’s skills like this that we need to preserve as part of our Filipino heritage.
